Dr. Debbie Gillespie, ND, CDM
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, Certified Direct-Entry Midwife
I have been involved in birth for over 10 years. While attending school at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Scottsdale, AZ I began assisting my mentor at home births. I received my doctorate in naturopathic medicine in 1999. After graduation I completed an internship and subsequently worked as a staff midwife at Casa de Nacimiento in El Paso, TX. In 2003 I moved to Juneau for the opportunity to work at the Juneau Family Birth Center where I worked as midwife, student director and midwifery manager. In 2006 I felt it was time to return to my roots in home birth and started Inside Passage Midwifery.
I have dedicated myself to learning about midwifery and birth. The high volume of clients at Casa de Nacimiento allowed me to work with a broad population of women. There I managed normal birth, including twins and breech birth, as well as a wide range of complications. Over the last 10 years I have attended over 1000 births.
I am certified by the State of Alaska as a Direct-Entry Midwife as well as licensed as a Naturopathic Doctor. I am trained in Basic Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation and certified in IV therapy for the treatment of Group B Strep as required by the State of Alaska. I have a passion for midwifery and am constantly continuing my education to increase my knowledge and skills to better serve my clients.
In addition to midwifery, I also have a part time naturopathic practice. Midwifery services end 6 weeks after you give birth. As a naturopath I have the ability to continue the relationship and support families long after birth.
